About Melissa

It all started with a shiny new Bachelor of Arts degree in print journalism (along with a minor in creative writing.) It was the year 2000, and Melissa was ready to take on the world, in her own creative way. She landed a job as a copy editor and page designer at The Herald, a daily newspaper in Rock Hill, S.C.

About a year later she was promoted to assistant news editor, where she helped to run the copy desk along with the news editor. She netted a few South Carolina Press Association awards:

  • 2005 First Place, Page One Design
  • 2005 Best of the Best in All Divisions, Page One Design
  • 2005 Third Place, Page Design , Daily Division 26,001-80,000
  • 2006 Second Place, Page Design, Daily Division 26,001-80,000
  • 2007 Second Place, Sports Page Design, Weekly Over 4,000 and Under 4000 Divisions Combined

A couple of years later, she was promoted to Editor in Chief and Creative Director of rejuvenate magazine, a bimonthly women’s magazine.

In 2005, she formed Melissa Oyler Designs, LLC, and ran her business part time along with her magazine roles. She left the magazine to pursue MOD full time in 2008. Jeffrey handles the web development side of the business.

Today, she feels like she’s taken on the world, creatively. Melissa is a book designer, a magazine designer, a business identity designer and a wedding album designer. She’s also a poet, a novelist, an organizer, a clean freak and a marathon runner.
